Direct School Admission

DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION (DSA)

Primary six pupils may seek Direct School Admission into Commonwealth Secondary School before the Secondary One Posting Exercise.

Admission Criteria

2.  We invite pupils who fulfill any of the admission criteria mentioned below to apply:

Category 1: Performing Arts - Band (Boys & Girls), Choir (Boys & Girls), Malay Dance (Boys & Girls), Chinese Dance (Girls), Indian Dance (Boys & Girls), Drama (Boys & Girls)

      • Demonstrated passion and keen interest in the areas stated above.
      • School will consider attainment in related areas (for example: ballet).
      • Achievement in SYF presentation or equivalent, and past experiences will be an advantage.

Category 2: Environmental Science (Boys & Girls)

      • Demonstrated passion and keen interest in the area stated above.
      • Served as NEA endorsed Environmental Champions 
      • Achievements in environment-related competitions or equivalent will be an advantage.
      • Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit a portfolio to showcase their involvement and past experiences in Environmental Science.

Category 3: Coding (Boys & Girls)

      • Demonstrated passion and keen interest in the area stated above.
      • Achievements in related competitions or equivalent will be an advantage.
      • Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of their past projects or involvement in coding.

Category 4: Sports - Cross Country (Boys & Girls), Badminton (Boys & Girls), Netball (Girls), Basketball (Boys) & Soccer (Boys)

      • Demonstrated passion and keen interest in any of the areas stated above.
      • Applicants should preferably have represented their primary school or taken part in national or zonal competitions.

Category 5: Leadership (Boys & Girls)

      • Demonstrated strong leadership qualities and initiatives in serving others.
      • Have held leadership positions in primary school (preferably leadership position in a primary school’s CCA/student leadership body e.g. Class Chairpersons/Monitors, Prefects/Counsellors, CCA leaders/Captains, etc.)

Category 6: Language - Tamil (Boys & Girls)

  • Demonstrated passion and keen interest in the area stated above.
  • Achievement in Tamil language related competitions or equivalent will be an advantage

3. Amid the recent COVID-19 situation and to ensure the safety and well-being of the DSA applicants, all shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a school-based video-conferencing session, comprising of performance tasks (if applicable) and interview components, to be conducted at their own primary school. Shortlisted applicants will be provided with further information at a later date.
 
4. Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted/given an offer.

5.     Students selected based on their talents relevant to a particular CCA are expected to join the respective CCA allocated by the school during their 4 or 5 years with the school.


Application Procedure
6. The application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be opened from 5 May 2021,        11 a.m. to 1 June 2021, 3 p.m.For more details, please refer to MOE website: www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec
 
7.    Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.


8.    Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1 - 4.
